More TIB own-trumpet-blowing (updated)

The world domination scheme continues apace, comrades. This week we've been sorting out three new sites, one of which is now online and ready to use. Of the others one is on the early stages and one is still being designed, but will feature a new shareware game that kicked my ass when I playtested it. But enough teasing, more about that when it's released. Keep 'em coming!

The site which went online this week is the new improved Photodesk resource site, described by Chris and Lee as "an independent site for users of the RISC OS graphics software Photodesk, offering tutorials, walk-throughs, hints and tips, advice and downloads". Only recently someone mentioned that a "Photodesk masterclass thing" would be a good idea, so it's double-good that we should be welcoming this excellent resource to the server. It offers a wealth of info and goodies that are useful to both Photodesk users and graphical types in general - for instance, did you know you could use Acorn freebie ChangeFSI to do halftoning? I didn't until I visited the site. So go take a look.

Now, any decent totalitarian regime worth its salt must first excercise draconian security measures, usually in the guise of being necessary to keep the citizens in its thrawl safe. Of course, we would never do that. In a completely unrelated move some of you might have noticed that we've removed guest and anonymous posting on the news, and you can't register new accounts at the moment. There is no cause for alarm, this is purely for your continued safety, and not in any way related to a certain hardware company not liking some of the postings made (anonymously) about it. Seriously though, I'm all for free speech, until someone starts talking about lawyers. I'm sorry it came to this because I'd hoped that we could keep this as an open forum for discussion, but then reality encroached on my utopian ideals. Boo. Anyway, new accounts creation should be back soon when we can modify the script to stop all the false registrations. You don't have to use your own name, just don't use someone else's!

Update: I completely forgot to mention that Harry's font site now has themes, the two OS themes and nine new ones such as Handwritten, Computer and Grunge. Sorry, H, I'll try harder next time...

Unregistered user Very mature. Do you have anything to say on the topic at hand or are you just looking for yet another way to censor the playpen?

Unregistered user We all had a debate, you lost, you didn't like it and kept on in different forums. Case in point, your last two comments.

Anyway, on to shareware games, I was teasing, which would be no good if I then just came out and told you what it was. Where's the tease in that? :)

Unregistered user I made a SIM city-like game once called Highway Maintenance. It was really cool - it had buses and trains. I never got onto boats or aeroplanes - but the buses were cool.

Unregistered user Just a small point, but is there any particular reason why some of the PhotoDesk site (the bits that aren't PhotoDesk related spring to mind, such as the graphics news) couldn't go on the Graphics section of the main Iconbar site, which is incredibly empty? :)

Also, the text in tt looks tiny in IE on Medium text setting, for some reason. You realise you can use <small> instead of <font size="-1">? :)

Unregistered user The photodesk site is an external "publication" and not produced by TIB - it was originally on the New Labour server. Hence, the guys wanted some space, and they got the standard package. I'm not trying to co-opt other people's websites into TIB itself, I'm just trying to provide space for people that want it. You could equally ask why elite.acornarcade.com isn't part of Acorn Arcade's main site, or why Harry's font site isn't in the DTP section etc.

And <tt> text's size has little to do with a choice between either <small> or <font size="[x]">, as it's all defined in a style sheet so they'd both look about the same ;)

Unregistered user Fair enough, I realise and understand that; it just seems a bit silly having these empty sections, especially when there's stuff on photodesk.iconbar.com that /isn't/ PhotoDesk related (I'm presuming everything on elite... is :) ).

And the two comments in my second paragraph are completely separate. :)
