Wes Kilford has written in to tell us about his "luggable" RISC OS machine - maybe not something you'd want on your lap, but plenty portable all the same.
Hot on the heels of Rico Naf's homebrew laptop, Wes decided to have a go himself and has documented the whole process. As he says, "it might help others also thinking about making their own homebrew portables - and maybe even inspire someone to modify the A9home".
And if you want to check out the finished article, then (subject to approval) it should be appearing at the Southampton Acorn User Group on Monday 13th June. Nice one Wes!

I used to lug my RPC around un a cardboard box, but everywhere I took it had monitors and keyboards that I could use. |

I managed a RiscPC in a sports bag over my shoulder and a numeric-keypad-less keyboard in my backpack along with a mouse, but the monitor was always a bit much for me :) |

Perhaps you could build a TFT monitor into the lid of the RiscPC, and have it standing on its side with the tower feet, carry a mini-keyboard and a mouse with you.. |

I used to carry my A7000+ into college a couple of years ago (their PC's were horrid) and used their monitors and net connection. People thought I was mad.... Putting a RPC into an A7000 case is possible (although the CPU will knock against the chassis unless you cut out a gap or modify the CPU card to lay flat). I had concidered putting a screen into the lid of a RPC but thought against it after realising it would need to be protected by a lid to prevent the screen getting scratched. Saying that, a robust touchscreen mounted into the top of an A7K case with a RPC motherboard underneath would be cool (and touchscreen drivers were demonstrated at Wakefield 05 iirc?) Food for thought. |
