The Icon Bar: News and features: Acorn User mentioned in NTK

This wouldn't really be more than a brief mention in the media section, if it wasn't for the reason it appeared: apparently the latest "CD coverdisc" we've already mentioned (because it's now just a bunch of files on the Web site) was written up in NTK - as an example of poor security. Apparently the contents of the "CD" included a web browser; nothing wrong with that you might think. Until someone was poking around and found some interesting cookies stored in there, including Brian O'(?)Carroll's Amazon preferences, and a few slightly shady ad banner cookies. The problem has now been fixed, but it seemed like an amusing cautionary tale for a drab Monday morning. Remember to clean those cookies files boys and girls! Source: NTK

Remember, MP3 websites also contain quite numerous 'shady ads' on them, and I have certainly seen such things on otherwise quite normal sites. Even casual browsing can fill your cookies with numerous undesirables. It's a sad ole world, ain't it ?

AFAIK, NTK is 'Need To Know' - well, according to http://www.acroynmfinder.com/ . It doesn't quite 'sound right' in this instance though... |

Click on the link to NTK (at the bottom of the story, on the main Icon Bar page, or if you're an ArgoNet subscriber from your Voyager default web page) and find out what NTK is!
OK, it's basically a weekly news letter about UK technology 'n stuff, in a sarcastic stylee; it's written by people old-skool enough to know what an Acorn machine is, and has featured RISC OS related stories on occasion. |

OK, so the link under the article doesn't work. Damned automated scripts... ;) |

Perhaps they were researching for a new "sealed section" to boost sales ;-)

Of course if you missed it on the website, then CD 14, that went out with the mag, had the stuff in full setup! Duh! |
